Ambiance of Colchester closes doors on a high note after 30 years in business

Just five months after celebrating its 30-year anniversary, womenswear boutique Ambiance of Colchester is preparing to close its doors as founder and owner Vicki Wheeler retires.

Twice Drapers Independent Awards finalist and winner of two regional awards, Ambiance was launched in 1985 and has since become an institution around Essex. It was also one of the first committee members of the Fashion Association of Britain (FAB).

Carrying a mix of occasion and contemporary wear for the 40+ market with brands including Marc Cain, Bitte Kair Rand, Frank Lyman, Presen of Barcelona and Olvi’s Lace.

“Running Ambiance has been a pleasure and a truly amazing experience. Many of our customers have become friends and many friends have become customers,” comments Wheeler. “My loyal staff have been the backbone of the business and we have created a marvellous and close team who bring the ambience to Ambiance. I will be spending my new found time travelling and indulging myself in pursuits that have been outside of my time capacity until now.”

Wheeler’s daughter Melissa, who has headed up Ambiance’s PR and marketing for the past eight years, will turn her time to work in fashion PR while her mother enjoys some well earned relaxation after her retail career spanning 40 years comes to an end.
