British accessory label Florian London is celebrating this week after scooping two prestigious prizes at The Independent Handbag Designer Awards at the weekend.

Held in New York, the wins will play a pivotal part in the brand’s expansion into the US market, with international recognition for Best in Overall Style and Design and Audience Fan Favourite.

The competition, originally founded to spotlight independent designers, awarded seven winners from over 1,500 applicants and was judged by a panel of esteemed industry figures, including creative director of Kate Spade, Deborah Lloyd.

Each year, the awards are independently supported by brands such as Timberland, Guess, and Instyle Magazine, offering the winners opportunities including apprenticeships and collaborations. Florian’s Best in Overall Style and Design award will see them stocked at leading department store Bloomingdales and profiled in Instyle USA, as well as the chance to show their range at leading trade show WWDMagic in LA and Las Vegas next year.

The brand’s creative director, John Edwards, commented of their wins: “We are overjoyed and so excited with the results of the awards, overwhelmed with the idea of our line being carried in Bloomingdales and the exposure we will be receiving from Instyle. A big thanks to all who supported us.”
