The deadline has been pushed back for 2014 Specsavers everywoman in Retail Ambassador programme nominations, with candidates for retail’s most successful women now welcome until 3rd June.

There are just a few days left for women across the country to nominate themselves or the colleagues that inspire them for the award that was created to recognise the achievements of women working in the UK’s retail industry.

Spearheaded by everywoman, the UK’s leading membership organisation that champions the advancement of women in business, the initiative wants to hear from women of all ages and at all stages of their career, whether working within corporations or as an entrepreneur.

Successful retailers and previous everywoman award winners such as Specsavers founder Dame Mary Perkins, Hobbs CEO Nicky Dulieu, and Walmart board executive Judith McKenna are supporting the search, as they aim to highlight the retail industry’s career potential and the breadth of opportunity in the sector. As the UK’s largest private sector employer, retail has a predominantly female workforce but only 5 per cent of women occupy senior roles.

Co-founder, Maxine Benson MBE, says, “Accessible role models achieving success in the industry play a vital role in attracting more talented women to it. That’s why the Specsavers everywoman in Retail Ambassador Programme is such an important initiative, one we hope all retailers will get behind by nominating the women playing a role in their success.”

The 2014 Retail Ambassadors will be announced at an evening reception at the Waldorf Hilton on Tuesday 23rd September.
