Taking triumph from near tragedy and building a successful business from her kitchen table, Annie Haak is right to be proud of what she has achieved.
Six years after creating her first collection of sterling silver jewellery, Annie Haak Designs is a company with a turnover in excess of £1.5 million and whose beautiful bracelets, necklaces, rings and earrings are much sought-after and now worn by a host of celebrities including Fearne Cotton, Dannii Minogue, Denise Van Outen and Alexandra Burke.
Haak has always loved to make and create, however it was an unfortunate accident that provided her with the opportunity to put pen to paper on a debut jewellery collection. After her husband Jonny was critically injured in a motorbike accident in Bali, Haak flew out and spent six days at his bedside where she had the time to sketch her initial designs and signature Guardian Angel charm as he recovered. From that moment Annie Haak Designs was born.
From the kitchen table of a cottage industry to the height of jewellery cool, Haak’s empire has expanded beyond her wildest dreams. She now employs a 20-strong production, administrative and marketing team in Hampshire as well as a network of employees in Bali – many of whom have built up thriving businesses of their own, employing local people and supporting families as a result of the work put their way.
Despite plenty of tough times and difficult decisions along the way, Haak’s family remain her focus – her three children Anoushka, Jochen and Naomi are the three hearts of her brand mark.
Bali, its people, culture and spirituality is always at the foundation of HAak’s designs. From the local flora and fauna, to the inspiring locals and the colours and patterns found in the markets and villages, the Indonesian island lends endless influence to every collection.
All of Haak’s designs carry a special meaning, with many able to be personalised with initials and a special message to pass on to the recipient. Haak lives by the motto on one of her charms “Dream, believe and achieve” – and it’s a fitting mantra for the brand that found its sterling silver lining.
