A new trade show dedicated to independents is launching in North Yorkshire this summer. Harrogate Fashion Week will take place in the heart of the eponymous spa town bringing together niche labels and independent boutique buyers.
The two-day event, which will open at the Harrogate Convention Centre on Sunday 29 July, will be the first fashion trade show to take place in the town in over 15 years. Creator Wendy Adams chose its location because it holds a place of nostalgia for many people working within the industry. She says: “Harrogate has a long history with the fashion industry having hosted buying events at the Convention Centre for over 25 years until a move to Birmingham in 2001. With many agents and brands still involved in the industry having happy memories of successful times at Harrogate, my team and I felt it was the obvious choice for this new show.”
Adams also has a long relationship with the town – having been involved in its original fashion and bridal trade events as well as running The Harrogate Bridal Show – the largest bridal trade show in Europe – for over 32 years. More recently she has also helped increase the success of The Flooring Show at the Harrogate Convention Centre.
Harrogate Fashion Week seeks to help indie brands promote their latest collections without placing a high price tag on exhibition space. “With difficult times on the high street, exhibiting has become less profitable for brands and agents,” says Adams. “We want to launch a new type of event where our main consideration is to keep the stand prices low without compromising on the buyer’s experience. The stand packages are competitively priced from just £900 to make sure it works for all our exhibitors.”
Since announcing its launch, over 45 independent brands have already confirmed their attendance at the show. These include the likes of Brodie Cashmere, James Lakeland, Lily and Me, Brodie Cashmere, Fenella Clothing, Tina Taylor, Isabella, Ella Boo, Foil, Smashed Lemon and Gill Harvey Collection.
