This week Drake Circus Shopping Centre is hosting its Plymouth History Live half term event in a bid that will surely drum up footfall as part of the City of Plymouth’s 100th anniversary celebrations.

The shopping centre is transforming into a budding historian’s paradise, with a packed schedule of fun things to do and see inspired by the rich history the city.

The family-focused free event kicked off yesterday and will run until Saturday, with different themes each day encompassing everything from children’s storytelling to educational displays of wooly rhinoceros fossils and hyena skulls.

Plymouth College of Art are hosting art and craft workshops, while local theatre company, Stonesoup, will treat crowds to theatrical performances, and polar explorer Antony Jinman will lead a talk on historical explorations.

“Plymouth has an amazing heritage and we wanted to bring it right into the heart of the City in Drake Circus,” said Drake Circus Centre director, Greg Lumley. “We’ll be working with Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery and Plymouth Art College to bring history alive in a way that’s fun and interactive.”
