Print-led lifestyle brand Sugarhill Brighton celebrates 20 years in business

British lifestyle brand Sugarhill Brighton is celebrating its 20-year anniversary with a series of competitions, special collections and giveaways.

Founded in 2003 by brother and sister duo Pawel and Aleks, the label began life as a pop-up shop in Barcelona. The original collection featured hand-finished Batik styles designed and produced in Bali, inspired by its co-founders’ love of travel.

Following the success of its initial pieces, Sugarhill Boutique launched in the UK choosing Brighton as the location for its design hub. In 2018, the label rebranded to reflect its creative identity and heritage as a family-run business.

From staple silhouettes to signature colour stories, Sugarhill Brighton’s collections continue to evolve while honouring the brand’s roots. Hand-drawn print and embroidery artworks have adorned dresses, shirts, knits and blouses for two decades – from Bark in the Park, Soft Jungle and Jurassic Jive to Festival Bunting, Animal Magic, Blue Skies Ahead and Spring Blooms. Its knitwear has also gone from strength to strength while its organic cotton t-shirts and signature sweatshirts have become synonymous with joyful, conscious dressing.

“Sugarhill’s philosophy has been the same since we launched 20 years ago: to design fun, joyful clothing that our customers love to wear,” says MD Pawel Przedpelski. “We still print using Batik and have seasonal collections that we’ve become known for. The growth of the collections, our team, and the support from customers over the last 20 years has been extraordinary, we feel very proud of where Sugarhill Brighton is now.

He adds: “Our wider initiative to move Sugarhill Brighton into a socially and environmentally conscious business has also gone from strength-to-strength. Our collections are now limited-run with over 70 per cent of the designs made from sustainable fabrics. We’ve been able to plant 107,000 trees through Ecologi, and through the launch of our #WearAndCare initiative in 2017, we’ve donated over £240,000 to charity and saved over 52,000 acres of rainforest. As we broaden and grow our brand’s appeal, it’s exciting to reflect and celebrate our roots and creative heritage.”

Celebrations for the 20-year anniversary begin this month with the launch of Sugarhill Brighton’s Magic Ticket incentive, which sees a voucher sent out everyday with one random online order. Shoppers email the brand with a code to claim a prize worth up to £100. The label is also launching an Archive Collection of its best-selling prints for AW23.
