Italy’s Princesse Metropolitaine fuses elegance with a touch of irony throughout its designs. Created in 2011 by head designer Lodovica Roncoroni, it is an unconventional label that often nods to vintage design. This season it has drawn inspiration from a gentleman’s formal wardrobe and preppy college style. The result is pleated skirts and blouses mixed with embroidered and über-feminine dresses. Neutral tones are set off against bright colours that are reminiscent of retro college palettes. Standout garments include a ‘50s-inspired full-bodied Princesse Dress in powder pink gold, an androgynous smoking outfit, which includes a white shirt and bowtie, as well as an A-shape dress in a gobelin fabric that reflects the college mood. Average wholesale prices range from €44 to €157.
