Derbyshire-based multi-award-winning indie group Young Ideas is marking 15 years under the leadership of current owner Anne Wright with a special event at its flagship store in Ashbourne.
Taking place on Thursday 11 May, Young Ideas – 15 Years, The Wright Way will see the premium retailer’s team showcasing the best of its fashion offer to VIP customers, partners and local stakeholders.
Wright bought the popular Ashbourne store in 2008. Having originally opened in 1966, Young Ideas was already well-known for its selection of womenswear brands that brought “a little slice of London to a thriving market town.” But the new owner, who came armed with decades of experience in the frozen retail sector, gave it a new lease of life with several expansions and fresh developments.
Under Wright’s direction, Young Ideas grew from one single store to a group of four. Meanwhile, its original flagship moved location to an empty and neglected former Ashbourne institution: The Green Man Hotel.
Today Young Ideas boutiques are also located in the Cathedral Cities of Lichfield and Derby while it also operates an outlet in Ashbourne and successful online store. Sister company Henmores, meanwhile, is now based at the original Young Ideas premises.
Although much has changed over the years, the core principles that attracted Wright to the Young Ideas brand remain: an entrepreneurial spirit, drive to support the local community and an exclusive selection of designer clothing. “The last 15 years have flown by, and I am incredibly proud of how Young Ideas has grown and evolved,” she says. “I love running a business that is at the heart of the community with a team that is known for providing excellent customer service. This is our every day and I look forward to what the next 15 years brings!”
Young Ideas stocks womenswear and menswear from some of the world’s leading designers including Boss, Bella Freud, Boutique Moschino, Coach, Diane Von Furstenberg, Hayley Menzies, Michael Kors, Paul Smith and Weekend Max Mara.
Wright personally selects pieces from over 80 brands each season, creating a carefully curated edit of wardrobe and dressing table essentials to take shoppers from day to evening and workday to weekend.
Young Ideas’ friendly team specialises in providing exceptional customer service alongside expert styling advice. Shoppers are offered a five-star personal shopping experience in-store or by virtual appointment.
The retailer hosts regular shopping events for its customer base and also frequently donates to local charities. Young Ideas celebrated 50 years in business in 2018 with a year-long list of events including a Spring Fashion Show raising over £1,300 for Guide Dogs for the Blind and Staffordshire Blood Bikes, a Spring Summer Launch Party and a Ladies’ Lunch and Fashion Show. Last year it also donated the proceeds from ticket sales for its SS22 catwalk show to the Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund.
In 2019 Young Ideas was a noteworthy winner at the inaugural Boutique Star Awards, scooping the prizes for Womenswear Independent of the Year and Independent Group of the Year while Henmores was named Multi-Channel Independent of the Year. Anne Wright also joined the judging panel for the Boutique Star Awards in 2022.
