Award-winning indie group Young Ideas is celebrating 50 years in business with a line-up of exciting events throughout 2018. To honour of its milestone anniversary, the Midlands-based retailer will be raising money for Foundation Derbyshire – an independent charity that provides grants to voluntary and community groups across the county.

Young Ideas first opened its doors in the swinging 1960s and now operates three bricks-and-mortar stores alongside a successful e-commerce business.

Kicking off the celebrations last month it held a Spring Fashion Show in collaboration with Lichfield City Council. The catwalk event featured clothing from designers including Paul Smith and Michael Kors while also raising over £1,300 for Guide Dogs for the Blind and Staffordshire Blood Bikes.

Four days later the retailer hosted its Spring Summer Launch Party at its flagship store in Ashbourne, showcasing its latest SS18 collections. Guests sipped champagne provided by Uttoxeter travel agent Journeys à la Carte while a team from local salon The Sally Montague Hair Group offered summer beauty advice. Meanwhile, as part of the event, the indie’s suppliers contributed to a charity raffle that raised over £200 for Foundation Derbyshire.

The winner of its 50 Years in Fashion Illustration competition, open to local university students, also attended the event and received a £200 voucher as part of her prize. Her designs will be used on an exclusive range of commemorative tote bags and mugs, which are being created for the store to raise further funds for Foundation Derbyshire.

Young Ideas will continue its celebrations in April with a Ladies’ Lunch and Fashion Show taking place at The West Mill Venues.

Owner Anne Wright, who bought the business in 2008 with husband Colin, comments: “Fashion trends have changed enormously over the last 50

years, but our passion for delivering exceptional customer service has remained constant. We are immensely proud to have reached this important milestone and want to thank our customers and the local community for supporting us. We are looking forward to celebrating while supporting a cause that is very close to our hearts.”
