Indie group Dotique defies retail slow-down with double-digit growth

Independent womenswear group Dotique has reported double-digit growth across its physical stores as well as a sharp uplift in online sales for the first half of 2025.

Founder Dorothy Robinson, who runs the three-store operation with daughter Sophie, attributes its resilience to highly personalised customer service, carefully curated product selection and a flexible, reactive approach to buying.

With stores in Chesterfield, Peak Village and Witney, the eight-year-old retailer reports strong performance across every site – with its latest store, which opened in the Cotswolds last year – exceeding early expectations. Online revenue also saw exceptional performance, more than doubling year-on-year.

According to the retailer, May delivered strong conversion rates, driven by sunny weather and increased footfall, while June saw a slight dip as high rainfall impacted in-store visits.

“While the weather still plays a part, what we’re really seeing is the strength of our customer loyalty and the demand for meaningful in-store retail experiences,” says Robinson. “Our customers are travelling to visit us in-store, organising FaceTime styling appointments if further afar, and recommending us to others.”

She adds” “We aren’t chasing trends when we’re buying. I’m looking for well-made pieces that feel good, fit properly and won’t be out of style next year. We help women build a wardrobe they actually wear – things that last, feel like them, and aren’t the same as what’s on every high street. That’s what makes Dotique different.”

Alongside its core womenswear offer, Dotique has made strategic moves in 2025, bringing in sought-after brands including Paige, Nobody’s Child (launching for AW25) and Joe Browns, as well as expanding into new categories. The introduction of menswear via A Fish Named Fred has also marked the beginning of a broader diversification strategy, with further category development planned in the second half of the year.

Dotique was founded in Chesterfield in 2017 by Dorothy Robinson and has since grown into a three-strong indie retail group, with additional stores in Peak Village and the Cotswolds. Daughter Sophie Robinson joined the business in 2024 to run its newest location in Witney.
