Retail expert Clare Bailey has released a new episode of her Retail Reckoning podcast, offering tips for fashion indies looking to grow by diversifying their product mix.
Described as an extension of her latest column for Boutique magazine, Bailey is joined by former boutique owner turned e-commerce specialist Steph Briggs to discuss how categories such as homewares and fragrance can elevate basket size and boost profits without diluting brand identity.
Key topics include why homewares remove some of the friction associated with fashion, including size and fit issues for gifting, the ‘good, better, best’ pricing strategy for impulse buys and premium treats, the role of scent in building brand memory and how retailers can translate the atmosphere and storytelling of a physical store into a compelling online experience.
“Some fashion indies get nervous moving into lifestyle, but once you match the aesthetic to your current offer it starts to feel like it’s part of the story, rather than an add-on,” says Briggs in the episode. “These categories are easy add-ons to increase basket value. If you’re a boutique retailer limiting yourself to fashion, you’re leaving money on the table.”
Listen now for honest, commercial insight on extending your range strategically by testing small, scaling deliberately and creating a cohesive brand experience that makes your business stronger, more profitable and more memorable.
